Heavy vehicles destroy roads

Road wear is roughly proportional to the FOURTH power of weight per axle, e.g. 3x the weight -> 81x the wear. So perhaps trucking (and heavy commuter vehicles) are both relatively under-taxed. This is due to the increased flexing of the road, more than rubbing from tires.
